"...'Proving Masculinity is a Trait, Not a Gender'"

This article documents a photography exhibit in California that depicts butch and genderqueer women in an effort to "allocate space for and document the existence of masculine women." The series of photos shows butch women in various scenes. Probably the most striking picture is the first, which shows a pregnant butch women with another woman, presumably her partner, standing behind her and cradling her belly; the image is a little jarring to the senses, since we are so conditioned to view pregnancy as a "feminine" circumstance.

The series definitely does an excellent job of juxtaposing masculinity and femininity, forcing the viewer to really think about their assumptions regarding female/womanhood and male/manhood.
