Gender Policing

A few months ago, a young boy wore a My Little Pony backpack to school. The school however felt it was inappropriate since it would cause him to be a target for bullying. This probably reated to the idea of My Little Pony being considered feminine, therefore as a boy having something considered for girls, he would be bullied for not staying inside his proper gender box. After internet outrage, they allowed him to wear it again, but it sure brings up the question should we do things to prevent bullying by avoiding things to get marked or, better yet, actually punish those who bully and allow everyone to be themselves? The internet agreed with punishing those who do wrong: the ones who do the bullying, which in this case was the administration who banned his backpack in the first place.
