"Although masculinities scholars have long held that masculinity is socially constructed, a body of theory and scholarship challenges theory and research on masculinities to push these boundaries further. To actually understand masculinity as separate from male bodies necessitates acknowledging that women can do masculinity too" (Pascoe and Bridges 330).
Masculinity does not have to equal male just as femininity does not have to equal female. The way we present ourselves is not biologically determined but rather a matter of individual choice.This link directs to an article on a photo collection entitled BUTCH by Meg Allen.
