Lupe Fiasco Taking On "Bitches"

Check this out...Lupe Fiasco taking on the hip hop tradition of calling women bitches and treating them like 'hoes.' He makes some important points... We should see/hear more hip hop like this. More importantly, kids (boys and girls) should be exposed to more positive messages regardless of genre.

This video makes me sad. Kids grow up being sent messages of not being good enough from the start. Women are taught to be sex kittens that are here to please men. How about showing videos of smart women that are successful and self sufficient? And why not set a positive role model for boys? That being attracted to independant, self respecting women is more fulfilling.

WOW! That was very well done! I agree that we need more artistic endeavors that show / speak of the truth behind the lyrics and images that degrade / vilify / praise men and women who are in reality- harming each other through words & actions. When I was a kid I could memorize lyrics so quickly and half the time I had no idea what I was really singing about- I was drawn to the rhythm and anything I was told I was "not allowed" to listen to . However, the messages I internalized have taken years to access let alone shed their distorted meanings and their impact on my views of men and women. I did find it sad to watch, but in order to show the reality and evoke real change- we have to show both pain and hope....
