Threatened Masculinity

I came across this article addressing the fact that men have been shown, based on a study done by the University of Washington, to overcompensate when they perceive their masculinity as being threatened. The study gave male students a physical test and then gave them bogus data placing them as either average or below average, with the below average group being correlated with female ability. All participants were then given a questionnaire asking about height, number of previous relationships, various personality traits and their interest in products that skewed male or female, along with “distracter questions”. The men who were ranked as below average consistently exaggerated their answers.
