Nowadays, women’s bodies are critiqued and compared like no other. One song called “The Body’ by Wale says “Baby, you got a body like a Benz.” A benz is referring to the car Mercedes Benz. This comparison is saying a women’s body is shaped like a nicer branded car/luxury vehicle. He then says "I'm just trying to drive it once again. "I think this is very objective, and the fact that a women should be impressed or happy that she’s being compared to an inanimate object is beyond me. Another very common body comparison women hear is “body shaped like a coca cola bottle.” This refers to big boobs, skinny waist, and wide hips. Since when did society accept these comparisons?
People with status, especially artists, get away with a lot of what they say because its often praised and repeated. These comparisons almost bring unrealistic expectations for women and their bodies, and oftentimes leads to insecurities and low self-esteem.
