Music Perpetuates Hegemonic Masculinity

People say misogynistic things very often, especially without realizing they are. In the music industry, women are continually being thrown in videos and songs to please the eye and support lyrics that demean their well being and image, respectively. These types of actions validate men's "superiority" to women with the assistance of their objectification and subordination.

For example, in Kendrick's song, Humble, he says,"I'm so fucking sick and tired of the photo shop/Show me somethin' natural like afro on Richard Pryor/Show me somethin' natural like ass with some stretch marks," which are seemingly progressive lyrics. But in actuality, it is another example of how black men give women directives on how to present themselves to appeal to what men find attractive.

In addition, these music videos can speak for themselves on how these men view women via their lyrics and their visuals.
