Side Effects of Toxic Masculinity

I recently listened to an episode of the "Small Doses" podcast hosted by Amanda Seals guest starring Dondre Whitfield who is currently developing a book where he delves into the inner workings of toxic masculinity and how to navigate through a system that perpetuates the very harmful sentiment. During this episode the two discuss the topic of Toxic Masculinity. This dialogue reminds me of this week’s discussion response I posted, more specifically one particular statement I made stating “The work done to challenge notions and societal norms is an effort to challenge the long perpetuated reality that was constructed with no regard for the equality, rights, opportunities, experiences, etc. of others.” I also thought back to the module where we were tasked with watching the film covering the social issues within the hip hop industry and how the same dated ideology exists today. Whitfield made a distinction between what he (socially) considers a grown male to be versus a grown man where the former generally exists to serve as the
latter exists to be of service. I thought that was a very compelling statement as I think of examples of men throughout history that have contributed so much t the world and society.
