White men, mass shootings and their feelings of entitlement

This article was written in Ms. Blog in 2012 after the Sandy Hook school shooting, and the failed attempt at recognizing that white males have committed the mass shootings.  “The U.S. ranks no. 1 in the world in guns/per capita, with 88 guns/100 people.  Ezra Klein from The Washington Post said, “Switzerland and Israel have rates of homicide that are low despite rates of home firearm ownership that are at least as high as those in the United States.”  However, it discusses a lot about how mass shootings are committed by white men and how white men feel that they are entitled to their power.  How masculinity is associated with violence and guns, and how men are taught from birth to expect control.   “Men with cultural entitlements to and expectations of power and privilege.”
