Young Thug wants us to stop believing in gender

Young Thug is at it again with his views on gender and the hard-wired binary code we attach to it! In a recent interview with V Magazine¸Thug (born Jeffery Lamar Williams) stated that he wants people to stop believing in genders, commenting on the fact that he himself doesn’t believe in genders. According to Williams, there is a multitude of ways to express persona without having the gender label attached to it. Williams is no stranger to making waves in the conversation of gender and hip hop, having already made such a bold move by releasing his mixtape with a picture of himself in a dress on the cover (see my previous post). In a time when musicians (and rappers especially) must strive to prove themselves and who they are, it is comforting to see someone in Jeffery’s shoes completing bashing the notion of gender.
